We have a customer that had a different DNB Duns # in 2024 than they do now - same company name and address - why would it change ?

@Jill T

A D‑U‑N‑S® Number is intended to uniquely identify a single business entity and typically does not change unless something meaningful about that entity or its structure changes. When you see a different DUNS, it’s usually because D&B recognizes it as a new or distinct entity rather than a simple update.

Here are the most common reasons a company’s DUNS might change:

If the legal structure or identity of the business changes - example Conversion (e.g., LLC → Corporation)

Mergers, Acquisitions, or Divestitures

Duplicate Record Cleanup (D&B Data Maintenance) - Duplicate DUNS records for the same company

Business Closure or Reopening - If a business is closed and later re-formed especially if ownership, structure, or registration changes
